Hi, welcome to my dog grooming studio. Having spent the best part of 20 years working as an engineer I decided to think about running a business from home. Being a complete dog fanatic it occurred to me, that as I do all the necessary grooming for my own dog Buster, I could do this for other dogs.
If I was going to do this I wanted to be extremely good at dog grooming therefore I wanted to be trained by the best. I was also aware, as is the Pet Federation that there are many groomers out there with no formal training, so I signed up with Agnes Murphy, who runs Scotgroom.
Agnes runs the Carluke-based dog grooming training school Scotgroom – the only recognised Pet Federation qualification training facility in Scotland- and is one of the most recognised dog groomers in Britain as well as being internationally known. I have completed an intensive six week, practical training programme which ensures I am fully competent with the grooming and styling of dogs (Part A City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming). During this I was taught the correct styling of breeds, how to trim and look after dog's feet, pads and nails, how to clean your dog's ears and eyes and how to handle the many different breeds from Lhaso Apso's to Bouvier des Flandres.
My professional development is ongoing and I will be sitting my theory exam in November (Part B City and Guilds Level 3 Certificate in Introductory Dog Grooming). Once this is complete I will work towards my Diploma and then I hope to go on to do my preparation for British Dog Groomers Association (BDGA) Higher Diploma in Dog Grooming.
